How old does my child need to be to attend one of your workshops?

If you feel your child is capable of actively participating in activities over the length of a day (8.30-4.30, with regular breaks) then potentially this workshop will be suitable. However, we need parents to understand that our coaches will call you to pick up your child if they are struggling to keep up, or are taking extra teachers to keep them on task.
We would recommend just booking into the first day to see how your child goes, as that day the junior students will be engaged in science activities which is probably the easier of the two focused activities.

On the Day

  • The workshop will run from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
You are welcome to drop off your child between 7:30am-8:00am at Sanitarium, or from 8am-8:30am at the Royal Oak Intermediate School hall. The workshop activities will commence at 8:30am and finish at 4:00pm. Children will then have group game time until pick up or departure back to Sanitarium at 4:30pm.
  • There will be a lunch break from 12:0pm to 1:00pm. Parents are welcome to sign their child out to take them for lunch. Please remember to sign your child back in.
  • Please keep your child at home if they are too sick to attend, or if they have an airborne illness and are coughing.
  • If your child is sick and can no longer attend the workshop, please email immediately so that we can notify the Head Coach.
  • If for any reason there will be a delay in picking up your child, please contact the program facilitator as soon as possible on 1300 463 513.

Can I stay and watch?

We follow the guidelines of the Office of the Children’s Guardian, whereby in the interest of child protection, we cannot have adults in the room without a verified and current Working with Children Check.

What shall my child wear?

Please wear comfortable clothes and closed shoes. Please note that some workshops can get ‘messy’. StarTime will provide all children with a StarTime t-shirt to wear to each workshops they attend.

What is your teacher to child ratio?

Children will be divided into their age groups unless there is a sibling or friend who would like to stay in the same group. Group sizes are usually between 15-25 in size. It will be at least a ratio of 1:15 children per educator. There are at least two educators onsite.

Do you have a 'lost property'?

Anything which is left behind by children will be left at the venue. Our StarTime coaches are instructed not to take any lost property with them.

Lunch break

  • Please pack a lunch for your child/children. Children will have a 1-hour lunch break to eat and play between 12:00pm and 1:00pm.
  • Please also pack a water bottle, morning, afternoon tea, hat, sunscreen and any medications required on the day (named and labelled with instructions).
  • Please do not pack items containing nuts or food that require heating or refrigeration.
  • If your child has an allergy, you will be required to submit a medical form when registering.

Child management policy

All children have the right to have a fun-filled and engaging day, and whilst we understand that children will be children, we do not accept bullying, aggressive and non-cooperative behavior.

If the organisers feel that the safety and interest of the other children are jeopardized because of this behavior, your child will be given three verbal warnings and you will be contacted on the third warning.  If the situation persists after this point, you will be asked to pick your child up. Whilst waiting to be picked up, they will not be able to participate in the workshop.

Medical / Emergencies

Upon registering please disclose any medical / behavioural conditions, that we need to be aware of. This will ensure that we have the appropriate staff to safely manage all the children in our care. If in doubt, please disclose, and we will contact you for further information.

  • Appropriate safety precautions and instructions are provided at the start of the program. All care is taken to ensure that the children are in a safe and secure environment.
  • Parents / Guardians are required to sign in their child upon arrival and sign out before leaving the workshop, including if you take your child out for lunch.
  • If your child gets sick during the day, our program staff will call you to pick them up.
  • Parents / Guardians must provide up-to-date emergency contact information, and the named emergency contact must be available to pick up the child at short notice.

We take anaphylaxis seriously. Any child that requires an EpiPen must bring theirs on the day, in association with the ASCIA Guidelines. This is so that in the event of an emergency we have the correct and required dose to hand. Please give the EpiPen to one of our staff on morning sign-in and ensure that all information of the allergic condition was recorded on registration.

During an emergency, it is the responsibility of the facilitators to ensure all children are safely evacuated from the building.
