Excursion: Melbourne Museum

Step into a world of discovery! In this exciting excursion day, StarTimers head to the Melbourne Museum to explore fascinating exhibits, incredible creatures, and stories from the past.

Students will wander through the museum like true explorers — observing dinosaurs, ancient artefacts, and amazing natural wonders. Along the way they’ll take notice of the exhibits that spark their curiosity and imagination.

Back at the venue, children transform their museum experience into their own illustrated adventure map, guiding others through the museum to the most exciting discovery they found during the day. If your child is sick and can no longer attend the workshop, please email [email protected] immediately so that we can notify the Head Coach.

Yes. Please pack a lunch for your child/children. Children will have a 1-hour lunch break to eat and play. If you would prefer, you are welcome to take your child out for lunch between 12:30pm and 1:30pm instead.

Please also pack a water bottle, morning, afternoon tea, and any medications required on the day (named and labelled with instructions).

Please do not pack items containing nuts or food that require heating or refrigeration.

If your child has an allergy, you will be required to provide this information upon registering. A medical form will be emailed to you to complete before you arrive at the workshop. Please pack this in your child’s bag so it can be given to the StarTime Team at the workshop.

Parents / guardians must arrange for the children to be dropped off and picked up from the venue at the designated times.

If for any reason there will be a delay in picking up your child, please contact Head Office as soon as possible on 1300 463 513.

Please make sure you have added details of anyone who may be picking up your child other than yourself under ‘Additional Information’ in the online registration form.

You are welcome to pick them up when you like, however you will need to sign them out each time and notify one of the workshop supervisors on the day.

It is at most a ratio of 1:15 children per educator. There are at least two educators onsite and more frequently our ratios are far less being 1:10 or 1:12.

Children may be divided into their age groups. We do however accommodate siblings or friends who would like to stay in the same group.

During the activities we divide them into smaller groups of 3-5 depending on the activity.
We follow the guidelines of the Office of the Children’s Guardian, whereby in the interest of child protection, we cannot have adults in the room without a verified and current Working with Children Check. However we understand parents want to see their children enjoying themselves and learning which is why StarTime puts on fun and informal showcases at the end of the day wherever possible.

It is best for your child to wear comfortable clothes and closed shoes. Please note that some workshops can get ‘messy’. On arrival of your first day at a StarTime holiday program your child will receive a StarTime t-shirt. There is a question in the online registration form to provide your child’s size.

Please ensure your child is wearing sun cream and has a hat to wear during outdoor activities.

Anything which is left behind by children will be left at the venue. Our StarTime coaches are instructed not to take any lost property with them. We will make every effort to remind children to collect all of their belongings at the end of the day.

Upon registering please disclose any medical / behavioural conditions, that we need to be aware of in the ‘Additional information’ field. This will ensure that we have the appropriate staff to safely manage all the children in our care. If in doubt, please disclose, and we will contact you for further information.

Appropriate safety precautions and instructions are provided at the start of the program. All care is taken to ensure that the children are in a safe and secure environment.

Parents / Guardians are required to sign-in their child upon arrival, and sign out before leaving the workshop, including if you take your child out for lunch.

If your child gets sick during the day, our program staff will call you to asses and ask you to pick them up if necessary.
Parents / Guardians must provide up-to-date emergency contact information, and the named emergency contact must be available to pick up the child at short notice.

We take anaphylaxis seriously. Any child that requires an EpiPen must bring theirs on the day, in association with the ASCIA Guidelines. This is so that in the event of an emergency, we have the correct and required dose on hand. Please give the EpiPen to one of our staff on morning sign-in and ensure that all information of the allergic condition was recorded when registering. Please ensure you speak with the first aid accredited coach on drop off.

During an emergency, it is the responsibility of the facilitators to ensure all children are safely evacuated from the building.

The registration platform has the option for you to cancel your registration.
