Multi-Day Incursion

Our multi-day program is tailored to fit your students’ interests and the school’s timetable, offering a variety of topics including science, creative and performing arts, filmmaking, and engaging sports activities for the end-of-term or for a school holiday program. From special FX to fascinating physics, stop motion to cinematic storytelling, every program can be customised to meet the school’s specific Key Learning Area (KLA) requirements.

TVC – Exploring Persuasive Language

Engage students in grades 5-11 with our 1-day TVC – Exploring Persuasive Language incursion. They’ll create compelling TV commercials using persuasive language, green screen technology, and on-camera presentation techniques in a collaborative, interactive environment.

Science and Space TV Commercial Filmmaking

Invite primary or secondary students to our Science and Space TV Commercial Filmmaking incursion. They’ll use persuasive language and media production skills to create a real estate-style commercial promoting a planet, integrating English, Science, and Technology learning outcomes in a fun, interactive day.

Stop Motion Animation

Introduce grades 1-8 to a 1-day Stop Motion Animation incursion that combines creative literacy with technical skills through crafting unique stop motion stories, aligned with digital technology standards. Students will collaborate in small crews, learning through hands-on tutorials and creating a 30-second animated short, enhancing understanding of film-making techniques, story structure, and critical soft skills.

Illuminated Art Festival for Your School

Transform the dark of night into a magical atmosphere of storytelling thorugh art, colour, music and light.

Over 6-weeks students learn how to digitise their analogue artworks into a multilayered animated story sequence, then add Sound FX, music and prepare their files for projecting their creations ‘Vivid-style’ onto surfaces in the school playground.

It’s a great way to bring the community together and celebrate creative expression with a dynamic and larger than life display of creative talents by your students.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does StarTime bring all the filmmaking equipment with them?

Yes, we have all the necessary filmmaking equipment including, ipads, tripods, microphones, green screens and more. If your school already has equipment, we can use this to augment our resources on the day and help engage as many students as possible with the technology.

What does the school need to provide for a StarTime incursion?

Access to a large space with break out rooms – a large hall (preferably carpeted or sound treated) average sized classrooms will suffice. Access to school wifi is preferable. Access to AV facilities such as a projector or large monitor with sound. We try as much as possible to take any resource management off your staff’s plate.

What do teachers need to do to prepare the students?

Students need to be put into “film crews” of between 3-6 students (depending the type of program) If students are writing their own scripts we have scaffolding and resources including: script templates and examples, video resources and checklists. If students are doing 1-day programs, they may like to bring costumes and props based on the script/theme of their film

What type of area does StarTime need for a class of 20-30 students?

A medium to large classroom will be the minimum required. Ideally a break out space in order to seperate the film crews will help with sound spill. For animation programs, a classroom will suffice as there is no live recording of sound.

If a student doesn't want to be on camera is that ok?

Its not a problem. Our programs are designed so that all students have the opportunity to experience ALL roles in front and behind the camera. If a student does not want to be on camera, they can circulate through one or multiple roles behind the camera – such as Director, Sound Recordist or Camera Operator etc

Will the students get a copy of their film at the end of the workshops?

At the end of the workshop and after the film showing, we upload the films to StarTime’s secure platform. We will then share a link for students and family to view their films .

What apps do we need to have loaded on our iPads?

There is a list of practical and user-friendly apps we will list prior to and post workshop so that your students can continue to utlise and embed the knowledge they learned during the StarTime program.

What version of iPads do we need to have?

StarTime will usually provide the iPads that are used for filming and editing. However, if your schools wants to use its own iPads, we suggest an iPad no more than 5 years old and has the latest iOS update.

Our school doesn't use iPads, can we still do the program?

Yes! Because StarTime programs focus on the techniques of filmmaking and storytelling, these can be applied to ANY technology. However, we also bring all the equipment including iPads, so there is no need for the school to provide any equipment.
